City advises of water supply disruption in the Duynefontein, Melkbosstrand, Melkbosstrand Rural and Atlantic Beach areas

The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Department will be commissioning its Return Flow Project in Atlantis on Sunday, 22 November 2020 from 18:00 until 00:00 on Monday, 23 November 2020.  The process is expected to take 30 hours to complete. Read more below.

During this time, the work involved in the commissioning process will include the shutting down of the bulk water pipeline between the Melkbosstrand Reservoir and the Witzands Water Treatment Plant in Atlantis to enable the project team to conduct the work safely.

Alternate water supply will be rerouted to provide water as far as possible to the affected areas during this period.

Residents in the Duynefontein, Melkbosstrand, Melkbosstrand Rural and Atlantic Beach areas will experience lower than usual water pressure and possibly no water during peak periods.

Residents are kindly advised to store water upfront in clean, sealed containers for use when required and to minimise their consumption during this period to prevent a no-water scenario.

The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused, but it is imperative that it enhances its water supply infrastructure to benefit residents in these areas.
